La niña de diez años fue sometida a una delicada operación para removerle un tumor maligno del cerebro pero fue de una manera muy diferente a la tradicional.
Claudia Botero nos tiene la historia de Diana Herrera. Adelante, Claudia.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Teresa, es una muy buena noticia. Es una cirugía que pocos conocen. La niña y su familia que residen en El Paso, Tejas, tuvieron que viajar hasta Los Ángeles, donde en el hospital "Cedars-Sinai", se puede decir, le salvaron la vida.

Mother (Elvia): Parece un sueño. Muy, muy contenta. Muy, pues, verdaderamente, muy emocionada.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Este sueño hecho realidad se debe a que su hijo Diana Herrera tiene otra oportunidad de vida después de haber vivido momentos bastante difíciles.

Mother (Elvia): Mi niña no puede ser eso. No puede ser mi niña. O sea, sentía que el mundo... yo quería que mejor Dios me diera a mi lo que la niña tenía.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): En diciembre del 2004, esta pequeña de 10 años fue diagnosticada con cáncer cerebral. Los médicos le habían encontrado un tumor del tamaño de un limón.

Father (Miguel): Ella se quejaba de un dolor de cabeza. Primero empezó, me decía: "Papi, tengo una headache", hasta que le empezamos a ver su cachetito, que se estaba inflamando y el ojito, lo estaba como pushando para el lado derecho.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Pero estos dolores de cabeza y su tumor ahora podrán ser cosa del pasado. Este miércoles fue sometida a una innovadora cirugía.
Según el doctor Shahinian, un 80% del tumor fue removido gracias a un instrumento conocido como endoscopio que, por medio de la nariz y con rayos láser, elimina el cáncer.

Unknown speaker: ¿Cómo te sientes?

Diana Herrera: Bien.

Mother (Elvia): Escucha uno que es cirugía, se imagina uno la cortada, el corte que hacen, que pueda ser. pero es el tipo de cirugía que por lo regular es para lo que la niña. donde lo tenía, hubiera sido mucho más drástico al proceso que se hizo.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Y a tan sólo dos días después de su cirugía, Diana está abriendo regalos y caminando como cualquier niño de su edad, con la excepción que ella quiere hacer algo que tal vez  otros niños no desearían:

Diana Herrera: Ir otra vez a la escuela.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Pero antes de regresar a la escuela, este fin de semana, Diana y su familia irán a Disneylandia. Los médicos dicen que todo ha salido bastante bien, pero durante los próximos cinco años, la pequeña tendrá que seguir visitando el médico, quien vigilará su progreso. Le deseamos muchísima suerte. The ten-year old girl underwent a very delicate surgery to remove a malignant tumor from her brain, but it was done in a very non-traditional way.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): Teresa, this is very good news. This is a surgery that very few people know of. The girl and her family, who live in El Paso, Texas, had to travel to Los Angeles, where in the Cedars-Sinai Hospital you could say that they saved her life.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): In December 2004, this little girl was diagnosed with brain cancer. Physicians had found a tumor the size of a lemon.

Father (Miguel): She complained about headaches. First, she said: "Dad, I've got a headache", until we saw that her cheek was swollen and her eye kept pushing out to the right.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): But the headaches and the tumor are now part of the past. Last Wednesday she underwent a very innovative surgery.
According to Dr. Shahinian, 80% of the tumor was removed thanks to an instrument called an endoscope, which enters through the nose and by means of a laser eliminates cancer.

Diana Herrera: Good.

Mother (Elvia): When one hears that it is surgery, you imagine a cut, that they make. but this normal kind of surgery for the girl. for the place in which she had the tumor would have been much more drastic than the procedure performed.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): And only two days after surgery, Diana is already opening gifts and walking like any other child her age, except for the fact that she wants to do something that other children would not:

Diana Herrera: Go back to school.

Presenter 2 (Claudia): But before going back to school, this weekend, Diana and her family will go to Disneyland.
